I knew before today that I would need to have lower back surgery but I didnt expect what I heard today from the 2nd surgeon that will be going my surgery. I have had 2 fushions in my neck and have 2 metal plates and 8 screws in my neck and had lowe back surgery in 2009. That is 4 spine surgeries in 5 yrs since my first neck surgery was 2005. I so hope this is my last one. The doctor told me today what I am about to go through is very intense and is nothing like what I went through before. I am now going to have 2 metal plates, 8 screws in my neck and 2 metal rods and 6 screws in my lower back. I am going to set off aiport metal detectors now LOL.
I spoke with a friend of mine son's mother today and she just had the same surgery I am going to have almost, she only has 1 rod and 2 screws just a tad bit less than mine. She told me that the pain is unbelievable. I hope this is the last surgery that I ever have to have. The doctor did tell me that he would love for me to quit smoking but if I couldnt quit then cut way back before surgery. I have to quit and soon. I want to give my body the time to heal some from smoking before surgery. I am going to be in a brace for up to 12 weeks. I can not even imagine what this is going to be like.
I am going to try and keep this as current as I can. That way I can document what I experienced from before surgery to after surgery and rehab. Rehab maybe just not physical but drug as well. Lots of drugs to take to control the pain. May seriously need drug rehab after.
